Splash of Sunshine

| I
wrote "A Splash of Sunshine" about Matt, a Downs Syndrome
young man. The story was included in A Special Kind of
Love, compiled by Susan Osborn and Janet Mitchell. Brenda,
Matt’s mother, gave a book party for Matt (and me) on Sunday
March 7, 2004 from 2 pm to 4:00 pm.

Satan
tried to prevent the party from happening in numerous ways. I learned
a week before the party that Brenda's books hadn't shown up. When
we called about them, we learned her credit card hadn't gone through
correctly, and she hadn't been notified. The kicker was there were
no more available books, but more were being printed—however,
they wouldn't be ready until three days after the event.
I notified both Susan and Janet who prayed for a solution. Each
of them went into high gear talking to anyone who would listen.
Finally, Susan was able to get books drop-shipped from Focus on
the Family, and they were received on Friday, the day before the
party. |
I
praise God for this young man. The book party was about him, and
only him. He was the star. He graciously signed more than 40 books
"Forever smiling. Matt." He used a pen Janet had sent
to sign each one. He beamed every time someone handed him a book
to sign. The party was a huge success, and at the very end, right
before I left, he handed me two 3 x 5 note cards—his speech.
The following is what he said to everyone in attendance. Even
with all his misspellings and grammatical errors, you can see
his heart:

had a dream about my book. She special lady. Her name Nana Sinpes.
She wrote wonderfull storeis about me, I want her continue her book
about me to hire her to be my agent for my book. I want to say thank
you for everyone for coming in our house. You verey special people.
I care about good people to me, I know be your friend and famliy
forever. Let us to pray in our Lord, to wish him to be happy for
me, to everyone of his children to be pround. His name is Matt Payne.
If you have question for me, just let me know. Your friend forever.

And
he was. This is why I write, to make a difference in people's
lives. This is success.
